Structure of the Course
The "Russia on the Air" consists of 20 units grouped in sections which represent a typical breakdown of news broadcasts: Politics, Economics, Society, and Culture. Each section is composed of several  units. Once every two months, a new unit will be added to each section.

Apart from the sections, there is a Vocabulary of the mass media language. The Russian-English  Vocabulary contains the most frequently used words and expressions typical of the mass media language that were used in the units of the course. The Vocabulary consists of two glossaries. One - a unit by unit glossary and another - an all-units glossary of words typical of the mass media language put in the alphabetic order. Totally the Vocabulary is comprised of more than 1000 words and phrases used in the units.

Before starting a unit, it is advisable to enter the Setting menu and choose the working mode.

Working mode
The program suggests two working modes:

  • study mode
  • flexible mode

Study mode
This mode imitates the study process conducted by a class room instructor. The program
  • provides a sequence of menu items to be strictly followed: Ëåêñèêà - Ïðîñìîòð- Óïðàæíåíèÿ - Òåñò -Âèäåî ñ òåêñòîì -Ïåðåâîä
  • it does not allow to start a new unit until the preceding one has been finished
  • it saves statistics of the completed assignments in case your decision to stop working on the current unit is found to be premature
Advantages of the study mode:
  • the General statistics (Îáùàÿ ñòàòèñòèêà) monitors results of all the assignments of the unit
  • you have an opportunity to contact your tutor: send your written work for checking and receive suggestions from the tutor as to how to improve this or that aspect of your work.

Flexible mode
You conduct the study process yourself. You may
  • choose a suitable sequence of menu items
  • choose the form of checking the assignments done by you
  • quit working on the unit any time and start a new one
  • Îáùàÿ ñòàòèñòèêà and tutorship are not available when working in this mode
  • no tutor is available in this mode.

Attention!  The context help that accompanies every assignment will give you directions as to how to work on the assignment. The context help is marked with "?"
